AKARD COMMUTATOR of TENNESSEE (ACT)Billy Higgs
EASA Technical Support Specialist

Are you struggling with training new technicians to take data and rewind DC armatures properly? This webinar addresses the critical skill gap in our industry for qualified DC armature technicians. With no formal schooling available for this specialized process, most training depends on your best winder, who may not always be the best communicator. Proper documentation ensures that technicians working weekends or holidays on priority jobs won't be delayed by unclear instructions or missing information. Learn how proper data collection and documentation can prevent confusion, rework, and warranty issues.

Topics include:

  • Gathering accurate initial measurements and identifying critical reference points like "slot 1"
  • Techniques for documenting data neatly and completely on data cards
  • Understanding commutator and armature body construction fundamentals
  • Distinguishing between form and random coil armatures
  • Identifying coil components and right/left hand coil configurations
  • Calculating and understanding the relevance of slot pitch
  • Working with bar or mica lineups and understanding skewed vs. straight slots
  • Differentiating between lap and wave windings
  • Calculating commutator and equalizer pitch correctly
  • Understanding progressive vs. retrogressive windings, plex windings, dead coils, and jumpers

Target Audience: Technicians, purchasers, supervisors and managers
