Vibration Diagnostic Methods and Corrective Strategies for Machine Reliability
Bob Sayer, Vibration Institute

Bob SayerSolving vibration problems related to electric motors requires a good understanding of the diagnostic methods for root cause analysis. Initial waveform and spectrum analysis often needs to be followed up with various mode shape analysis techniques. This session will explain those techniques and the relative technical concerns. Of course, analysis of vibration problems should lead to corrective measures and various “fixes” will also be discussed, along with illustrations via case studies.

Relationship between vibration, cyclic stress, fatigue, reliability. Review of general vibration severity standards and motor specific severity standards.

  • Basic digital signal processing
  • Advanced vibration diagnostics
  • Vibration corrective action strategies

Why People Don't Believe You
Rob Jolles, Jolles Associates, Inc.

Rob JollesWe have been raised to believe that words are one of the most essential tools an individual can use to communicate. We’ve been duped. If words are so important, why are so many of us literally afraid to send a text or an email because we are nervous that our words will be misinterpreted? Could it be because our words alone offer little in the way of help when it comes to conveying the true emotional content of what we are trying to say?

The fact is, a huge percentage of the population struggles with an issue that has very little to do with the words we use: the simple act of being believed. We can find ways to mask this problem, but it haunts us just the same. When those words fail and, given this all-too-common scenario, they almost always do, we retreat even deeper into doubt.

Learning Outcomes:

  • It’s not the words that betray us; it’s the way the words are used.
  • Learn how to incorporate acting techniques
  • Learn how to incorporate improv techniques
  • Learn the “Three P’s” of communication; Pitch, Pace, Pause.
  • Learn how to quickly read the personalities of others and communication skills needed to connect with these personalities

No More Order Taking!
Rob Jolles, Jolles Associates, Inc.

Rob JollesSales professionals in the EASA industry cannot succeed with an “order taking” mentality. This motivational and spirited session will help attendees combat that mentality and exceed their sales goals.

Audience members will be forced to focus away from the products or ideas they sell and look instead at the way the people make decisions. The disconnect between the traditional way people are taught to sell and the way people buy is evident.  Once this is accomplished, a series of probes and tactics are presented to move others from “thinking about change” to “committing to change.”

Winding Verification
Tom Bishop, P.E., EASA Senior Technical Support Specialist

Tom Bishop, PEA key factor with rewinding is to be certain that the data that was found in the winding is correct.  In most cases factory data is not readily available, so the reported data is used for the rewind. However, a good practice is to verify the as-found data before proceeding with the rewind. This session will focus on verification methods for windings of AC motors and generators.  The specific types of windings focused on will be:

  • 3 phase stators
  • 3 phase wound rotors
  • 1 phase stators
