Hi! I'm Eddy

Eddy - EASA's AI toolA Large Language Model Educated on EASA Content

I'm your AI assistant and I'd love to have a conversation about AR100, technical resources, industry reports, management & sales articles, convention papers and so much more. Let's talk about industrial electric motor repair!

Get to know Eddy

What is Eddy?

Eddy is an AI-powered Large Language Model (LLM) educated on EASA content. This content allows the model to provide detailed answers to association- and industry-related general questions and technical content.

Hey Eddy, where did you get your name?

I’m named “Eddy” as a nod to “eddy currents,” which are loops of electric current induced within conductors by a changing magnetic field—something you’ll run into a lot in electric motors and transformers. Plus, it’s a fun play on words for an assistant in the electrical apparatus world!

What does Eddy know?

Eddy has learned about the electric motor repair and service industry by studying decades of EASA content and will continue to expand its knowledge base. Some of what Eddy has been trained on includes:

  • The EASA Technical Manual
  • ANSI/EASA AR100
  • EASA AR200
  • The Effect of Repair/Rewinding on Premium Efficiency/IE3 Motors
  • EASA Good Practice Guide
  • AC Redesign Manual
  • EASA Job Descriptions booklet
  • Most of the EASA website including the EASA Resource Library (especially technical, management, sales and marketing articles), the EASA Online Store, and course descriptions within the EASA Learning Center.
  • EASA's Seminar manuals
    • Principles of Medium & Large AC Motors (NEMA & IEC)
    • Root Cause Failure Analysis, 2nd Ed.
    • Mechanical Repair Fundamentals of Electric Motors, 2nd Ed.
    • Fundamentals of DC Operation & Repair Tips
    • Fundamentals of Pump Repair
  • All issues of EASA Currents back to September 1998
  • EASA Industry Research
  • Convention papers authored by EASA staff dating back to 2006
  • The New Member Toolkit
  • And much, much more ...

What makes Eddy different than other generative AI tools?

Eddy has been trained specifically on EASA content. This means that Eddy can access files and information that are not widely or publicly available and ensures that the responses are based solely on reliable and authoritative EASA resources, maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the information provided. Eddy also provides its sources, so users can go straight to the EASA resource(s) where Eddy has drawn its answer.

What are some tips for having a good conversation with Eddy?

Here are some general tips for crafting effective AI prompts:

  • Be Clear and Specific
Clearly define what you want from the Eddy. Specificity helps Eddy understand your request better and provide more accurate responses.

  • Provide Context
Include any necessary background information or context that might help Eddy understand the topic or the desired outcome.

  • Use Simple Language
Avoid complex language or jargon unless necessary. Simple language helps ensure that Eddy interprets your request correctly.

  • One Question at a Time
Eddy can better focus on a more precise response if it focuses on one general topic at a time. Keep in mind that you can ask follow up questions to refine Eddy's response or take the conversation in a new direction.

  • Ask Direct Questions
Direct questions can lead to more precise answers. If you need information or a specific type of response, frame your prompt as a question.

  • Iterate and Refine
If the initial response isn't what you expected, refine your prompt and try again. Iteration can help you get closer to the desired outcome.

  • Set Constraints
If you need a response within certain limits (e.g., word count, format, bulleted list), specify these constraints in your prompt.

Does Eddy speak multiple languages?

Eddy can effortlessly communicate in any language commonly represented on the internet, giving your employees access to information in their native language. If you start a conversation with Eddy in Spanish, Eddy will continue responding in Spanish ... and so on.

Did you get a good response in English but want to easily share it in another? Just ask Eddy to translate it to that language.

Keep in mind that sometimes our industry's technical terms, jargon or slang do not translate well ... or even at all. Eddy will attempt to do its best.

Can Eddy provide me with diagrams or images?

At this time, Eddy is limited to communicating through text responses only.

Depending on the question and the way it is asked, Eddy can sometimes provides tables or equations. Be sure to ask for those if that is the output you are seeking.

Additionally, Eddy has no means to upload photographs nor any way to analyze them.

How can I cite a response from Eddy?

Eddy is an AI/LLM machine and not a human. All answers should be treated as informational only.

If you would like to further research content generated from Eddy, please access the full source, which will appear as inline citations or at the bottom of Eddy's response. Please explore the full source material(s) and cite the full source publication/article.

What if I don't agree with Eddy's response?

Eddy is still learning and improving from the feedback you share. If you like Eddy’s response, give it a thumbs up! But if the response isn’t perfect, give it a thumbs down and explain why the response didn’t meet your expectations ... and provide details. Eddy can't learn much from simplistic feedback. Eddy is an AI machine and is always learning. To make sure Eddy can be as helpful as possible, we need to help the system learn. We truly appreciate your input and feedback.

Note: Eddy won't immediately add your feedback to its knowledge base. Eddy prefers to have EASA's Technical Support team review any new information.

I want to share my thoughts about Eddy. How do I do that?

If you have general feedback about Eddy, please email learn@easa.com.

Why did I not get a response or why was it only a short response?

If you are not a member, or if you aren’t logged in, Eddy will not dive into the all valuable EASA content. If you want more detail, log in to your member account.
