Spectrum analysis is the primary tool for analyzing vibration problems. Yet, a lot of useful information can be acquired by tracking the vibration characteristics as power is disconnected from the machine. Most spectrum analyzers have a function for capturing the coast-down data. Knowing how to setup and use that instrument function is important for many vibration analysis and balancing situations.
