Feedback – survey after survey tells us that our people crave feedback. Those same surveys tell us that is what they feel they are not getting. One of the biggest reasons cited for our best people leaving their jobs today is that they do not feel like their managers care about them, and they cannot see a meaningful path forward. I mention managers, not management. Management is a system; a manager is a person. Good people leave bad managers….ouch!

Offering feedback often doesn’t happen because it’s tough. It is really hard to discuss with people the areas in which we want them to improve. We struggle with it in our organization. But when we get it right, it is incredibly helpful. Below are a few lessons we’ve learned along the way.
