Every employee in a service center contributes to delivering quality work and meeting customer expectations. A well-designed Quality Management System (QMS) helps reduce rework, improve efficiency and strengthen overall business performance. 

Rework occurs when an issue is identified and corrected before equipment is returned to the customer. When over 30 minutes is spent modifying work that has already been completed, then it is typically categorized as rework. Another example of rework would be an error that's discovered in assembly but occurred in the winding area. That rework discovery would then be assigned to rewinding. 

Warranty claims, by contrast, result from issues that were not detected during the repair process and are discovered after delivery. While both situations create costs, rework can often be reduced through effective quality processes. 

The financial impact of rework is frequently underestimated unless it is tracked and analyzed. Reducing rework not only improves profitability but also frees resources for investments in equipment, training, employee development and other business improvements. These gains can also contribute to higher employee morale.
