Presented by Chuck Yung

The PI test is well known and often requested by our customers. This webinar explains the PI ratio and the less-well-known DAR and describes where they are useful and where they are not. The PI ratio is a variant of a DAR, using a 10-minute / 1-minute ratio. It is well- regarded for form wound machines. Too many customers want to apply the PI test to DC machines and random windings. This webinar will explain why that is not a valid test for some windings and explain the advantages of the DAR (1 minute / 30 second) test.

Topic includes:

  • What is a PI test, and how does it work?
  • Why is winding capacitance important?
  • What is the difference between the PI and DAR?
  • What types of windings is the PI ratio used for?
  • What types of windings is the PI ratio not suitable for?

Target Audience: Technicians, management and sales personnel. It is especially relevant for field service and in-shop technicians.
